The Eau Claire Crush were defeated by the Menomonie Thunderhawks this past Saturday by the final score of 45-6.
This is a step forward for the Crush after a disheartening result in their last game. Early on the defense did a good job of limiting the athletic Thunderhawk offense but gave up too many big plays. The Crush offense gave good effort but was overmatched by the bigger and more physical Menomonie defense.
The defense limited the Thunderhawks to many short yardage plays but was exposed too many times by long passes and runs. Nick Kernstock led the way with 11 tackles and one sack. Billy Hawn also had an impressive game with 5 tackles and an interception. The Crush gave up 26 less points than their last outing and look to improve with an eye on next game.
The offense made little headway through three quarters with many stuffed runs and incomplete passes. Christopher Marshall gave the Crush offense a breathe of fresh air in the 4th quarter at quarterback however. Marshall threw for the first touchdown for the Crush this season, hooking up with wide receiver Lucas Lockington. In an all purpose performance Marshall lined up at quarterback, running back and wide receiver.
The special teams were not a factor once again with no field goals attempted and just few punts.
The Eau Claire Crush plays their rivals the Chippewa Valley Predators on May 31st. Come out and support your Crush!
