EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - The Eau Claire Cavaliers, celebrating their 42nd season of baseball, are hosting the Westmont Red Sox in a non-league contest this Friday night at 6 p.m. at Carson Park. Not only is it free admission night, but it's also the re-scheduled date for the team's fundraiser for former Cavalier and Eau Claire native Phil Isaksson.
Eau Claire Cavaliers manager Mark McHorney suggested earlier this week during a radio interview on 1400 WBIZ-AM that given the fact that both Eau Claire adult amateur football teams were also playing in Carson Park that night at 7 p.m., that they could 'pass the bucket' in the football stands as well. Both Chippewa Valley Predators general manager Matt Risen and Eau Claire Crush board president Mike Muehlbauer heard the interview, and agreed that their fans would be eager and willing to contribute to the Cavaliers' fundraiser.
Fans at both games will have the opportunity to donate to a fund set up for Phil Isaksson. Recently, Culver's on the west side of Eau Claire donated over $20,000 to the Isakssons, and earlier this year, a similar fundraiser to the one being held at the Cavaliers game this Friday night was held during an Eau Claire North-Eau Claire Memorial baseball game.
A donation container will be made available to fans in the stands at both the Cavaliers-Red Sox and Predators-Crush contests at Carson Park. The total amount raised will be announced at the Cavaliers game.
