EAU CLAIRE—The Eau Claire Crush will begin their 2013 season on Saturday, playing a home game against the River City Rough Riders, of LaCrosse.
The Crush’s Head Coach Fred Hoversholm says it will definitely be a good game to watch.
“LaCrosse has had two games already,” Hoversholm said. “They’re battle-tested.”
The Eau Claire Crush is a semi-pro football team which plays in the Northern Elite Football League (NEFL). Created in 2006, the team hopes this season will bring it one step closer to the league championship.
This year, the Crush is starting its year off with a young roster, meaning many players are new to the team.
“At this Saturday’s game, we will be without several returning starters,” Hoversholm said. “But players will step up and fill in. We have a very young team again this year.”
One of those new players, left guard Tyler Bortle, says that he believes the new guys can rise to the challenge.
“We have an edge in this game because we are well conditioned, and have a very physical run game,” Bortle said.
The Crush debuted a new coaching staff this season, and Hoversholm says they will play a key part in the Crush’s success this year.
“The coaching staff has done great things with the team,” Hoversholm said. “Win or lose on Saturday, I’m proud of everyone involved.”
The Crush will play this week’s home game at Carson Park’s football field, starting at 6pm Saturday night. Tickets will be sold for 8 dollars, and season tickets can be purchased for 35 dollars as well.
