CARSON PARK – The Crush suffered their fifth loss in a row Saturday evening when they fell to the North Bank Bulls 28-0.
The Crush (1-5) put together a strong defensive effort, but on a day when they were only able to muster 71 yards of offense, it was not enough. Quarterback Chris Marshall threw for 2 interceptions, while Crush running backs Tanner Olek and Tommy Green each lost a fumble.
Special teams, which had been solid in previous games, struggled as well. Two punts were blocked, including an especially costly one that was returned by a Bulls player for a touchdown.
There were many strong defensive efforts as defensive lineman Chris Leverton had 8 tackles and defensive back T.K. Lewis had 4 tackles and a timely interception.
Defensive lineman Shanon Herrick had a game he was sure to remember with 7 tackles and an interception. “It took me by surprise,” Herrick said. “I had never gotten an interception before. The first thought I had was to get to the sidelines and the second was why aren’t I running faster.”
This is the second game in a row where the offense has struggled to find a rhythm. “Our defense plays great,” Herrick said. “We just need to get things going on offense, but other than that we played our hearts out.”
The next Crush game will be a special one as they take on the Chippewa Valley Predators on July 4th at Carson Park on 6 p.m. After the game, families are encouraged to stay and watch fireworks.
“The in-town rivalry always gets us fired up and there should be a lot of excitement,” Herrick said. “Hopefully we can put some points in the board.”
