EAU CLAIRE – The Eau Claire Crush fell to the Fox Valley Force 71-0 in their opening game at Carson Park Saturday night.
The Crush defense held strong until halfway through the first quarter when the Force scored their first touchdown. The Force built on that, and by the end of the first half it was 50-0 Force. However, the defense continued to work hard in the second half, stopping the run and forcing incompletes. Defensive back Nick Kernstock had a big game and lead the team with 7 tackles.
The young Crush struggled on offense with incomplete passes and two interceptions by quarterback Christopher Marshall. Penalties on both sides of the line slowed things down, and the running game never gained momentum.
Special teams fought to contain punt returns, but it wasn’t enough. The Force returned two punts for touchdowns.
Next week is a bye week for the Crush, and they will use that time to learn for their experience this week. They look to turn things around in two weeks when they travel to Menomonie to face the Thunderhawks. They play at 7 p.m. on May 17th at Williams Stadium. Come out and support the Eau Claire Crush!
